Lely Tennis Team Excels at Nationals

For the first time ever, the Super Senior 6.0 Combo Men’s Tennis Team from the Players Club and Spa at Lely Resort advanced to the Finals of the USTA Nationals Championships in Surprise, Arizona this past weekend. The team came in Runner Up to the team from Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Players Club defeated Midwest, Texas and Hawaii to advance into the championship round.

The USTA Super Senior 6.0 combo is made up of over 3000 teams and 300,000 players nationwide. The Players Club Team qualified for Nationals by becoming the Regional Representative from Florida. The team won every match during the Florida State Sectional Tournament in April of 2010, to qualify them to go to the National Tournament in Arizona. Headed up by Club Pro, Denny Rager and Captained by Jim Moore, the Team from Players Club included Jim Bifaro, Bruce Houran, Gary Lefebvre, Ed McGuire, Dusty Rhodes, David Saks and Larry Weinstein. Other players who were on the team during the local Collier County matches which qualified the team for the Florida State Sectionals were Stacy Courter, Eik Klein and Tom Morrrier. The Players Club team’s phenomenal run included a winning season in Collier County, Regional win in Daytona, and advancing to the Finals at the USTA Nationals.
